Thanksgiving Breakfast

Thanksgivingbreakfast
Looking for a Thanksgiving Breakfast that is stress free and "measuring" free?  Here you go!  Measure Free Recipes is perfect for cooks like me who despise following directions!  Their book, Cooking Beyond Measure is brilliant, how to eat well without formal recipes, that is me to a tee!  And I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that agree:  following recipes line for line does NOT mean the dish will come out just like it should!  So improvise, eat healthy, and actually enjoy the cooking, not just the eating.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Be thankful for all you have!

Halloween Sweet Tooth

Image002_2My family and I went to the ice cream shop last night, we treated the kids to an ice cream dinner!  Needless to say Mom and Dad were a huge hit for the evening!  My husband and I also indulged in a tasty, HUGE, waffle bowl filled with Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream.  It's definitely a "treat" for us, we never splurge on ice cream, but what if I could have a little taste of my favorite mint chocolate chip without having to go buy an expensive ice cream cone?

Baskin-Robbins did some smart thinking and came up with a line of hard and soft ice cream flavored candies to satisfy the sweet tooth in kiddies AND adults!  These would be great in a candy dish in the office, in your purse for a quick fix, OR perfect for Halloween treats!  They also come in sugar free; you could be a hit with moms for the kids Fall Treat goodie bags by NOT giving chocolate bars galore!

Try this new spin on candy; Oh, this may also help those lactose challenged individuals who want the taste of creamy ice cream but without the pain afterwards.  I fall in that category for sure!
Available in Mint Chocolate Chip, Very Berry Strawberry, and Cookies N' Cream.

Raising awareness with FOOD

Pinkbox8_3As I sit and type this early in the morning, I realize I have not eaten breakfast yet and these next tasty treats are making me drool!  Two more fantastic companies doing their part to contribute and raise awareness for Breast Cancer research.

Fretzels by Jill are hand-dipped gourmet chocolate covered pretzels, YUM!!  $5 from every sale of the Pink Fretzels this month will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation.  These beautiful little boxes with the yummy treats inside would make fabulous gifts!  Support breast cancer research and satisfy your sweet tooth all with one purchase!  (Oh, and Fretzels by Jill also has some festive Halloween boxes, get some and share with your kiddies!)

But before you snack, make sure you eat breakfast, and if you are in Southern CA, stop by your local Panera Bread to purchase a Pink Ribbon Bagel (yes, this bagel is actually shaped like a pink ribbon).  Portions of all proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, LA Breast Cancer Alliance, and various other local charities.

I'm starving now just thinking about these companies and their delicious Food!
Our month end contest is still running!  Don't forget to leave us a comment on any of our Breast Cancer posts for a chance to win the tote bag filled with goodies!

Charitable Water

P7watergroupHave you heard of Project 7?  A recently launched (creative concept) bottled water company donating 50% of profits to benefit 7 areas of social change.  I say creative concept because EVERYONE purchases bottled water at some point!  So what better product to market for SEVEN worthy causes.

Heal the sick, House the homeless, Save the Earth, Feed the hungry, Help those in need, Build the future, and Hope for peace.  They have a cause for everyone; there's something that matters to you, even if it's only one, on that list.  Gang violence, AIDS relief efforts, Being GREEN, orphanages, and so on, one company willing to help so many needs.

Help "Change the Score" as a consumer, as a volunteer, or with a donation.  Check out their site, an abundance of information on the causes and the company.  I'm always looking for more charitable shopping experiences and (hate to say it) but easy ways to donate to a greater good, this is perfect!

America's Test Kitchen

Food Just one episode and I was hooked!  I have never been one to watch cooking shows but as a "tester" in the kitchen myself {meaning there have been plenty meals in my house that have looked amazing but tasted horrible} this show is perfect for me...and anyone else in America looking for simple, easy to follow recipes that have been tested and proved to taste exceptional!

"America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe."

Beef Stroganoff was tested at our house, and approved by even the 2 year old!  Check out their website and Season 8 on public TV.

Cookie, Cookie, Cookie

Cookies There comes a time each month when all women want to do is eat chocolate. And potato chips. And maybe ice cream. But definitely chocolate.

And what better way to fill that need than with homemade chocolate chip cookies?

Smitten Kitchen is at it again, this time sharing her all-time favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.

If the recipe description doesn't get you drooling, her beautiful photography will. I know what I'm making this weekend!

Enjoy!

Healthy Snacks

3028hostess100caloriepacks It's ok to cheat on your diet, as long as you cheat with the right things. But let's be honest, sometimes a girl needs some chocolate, am I right?

Hungry Girl has provided us with a list of mouth-watering goodies that are only 100 calories. That's right, only 100!

So what made the list? Cupcakes, cookies and popcorn. Seriously! In the right portions, this stuff really is OK.

Check out her full list here and happy cheating, er, eating.

Diet Resolutions

Pizzabagel2 We all know that diet and exercise are an important part of reaching our weight goals, but let's be honest, diet food can get boring. Quick.

Funnymoods has a cure for that. Check out her list of diet-friend and tasty recipes.

The 2-point pizza looks good!

Ingredients:
1 Western Bagel The Alternative Bagel, Roasted Onion
1 wedge The Laughing Cow cheese, Light Garlic & Herb
2 tbsp. canned tomato sauce
salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, onion powder; to taste

Directions:
Slice bagel in half, and spread cheese wedge evenly over both halves. Season sauce to taste with salt, pepper and spices. Spread sauce over the cheese. Place bagel halves in the toaster oven and toast for about 5 minutes, until sauce is hot and bagel is crispy. (If you don’t have a toaster oven, you can pop ‘em in the oven at 450 degrees and cook until hot ‘n crispy.) If you like, season the tops as you would a regular slice. Now chew!
